Grok Bot setup: install, plans, prices and your first Bot (unofficial)

By Ben (BenX) · Published · Last checked against official sources

To set up Grok Bot, download it from x.ai/bot (or the App Store or Google Play), sign in with a Cursor account, and make sure you have access through a paid Cursor plan, a linked SuperGrok or X Premium+ subscription, a Grok Business seat, or the free trial. Then create a Bot, give it a description with its standing rules, and send it a task. Cursor plans cost less on the web than inside the Grok Bot iOS app.

How do you set up Grok Bot?

Short answer: Download the app from x.ai/bot, sign in with your Cursor account, choose a plan or link SuperGrok, then create your first Bot and give it a task. Accounts on Legacy Privacy Mode must change their Cursor data setting first.

  1. Download the app. Go to x.ai/bot yourself. On a phone, use the App Store or Google Play links in xAI's docs. See which platforms Grok Bot runs on.
  2. Decide how you'll get access. A paid Cursor plan, a linked SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy or X Premium+ subscription, a seat on a self-serve Grok Business plan, or the free trial. See which plan you need.
  3. Link SuperGrok or X Premium+ before you sign in, if that's your route. The link buttons are on the first paywall screen. See linking a subscription.
  4. Sign in with your Cursor account. xAI's docs say "Grok Bot uses your Cursor account."
  5. Check your privacy setting. Grok Bot won't start on Legacy Privacy Mode. See the Legacy Privacy Mode blocker.
  6. Create your first Bot. Give it a name, a job and standing rules in its description. See your first Bot.

Which platforms does Grok Bot run on?

Short answer: xAI's docs list macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. Desktop downloads are at x.ai/bot, with Linux packages under "More downloads". The phone apps need iOS 18 or later, or Android 9 or later.

Table: Grok Bot downloads by platform (last checked 8 Oct 2026)

PlatformSupported versionsWhere to get it
macOSApple silicon and Intelx.ai/bot (the main button reads "Download for macOS")
Windowsx64 and Arm64x.ai/bot
Linuxx64 and Arm64, as .deb, .rpm or AppImagex.ai/bot, under "More downloads"
iPhoneiOS 18 or laterApp Store
iPadiPadOS 18 or laterApp Store
AndroidAndroid 9 or laterGoogle Play

Does Grok Bot work on Linux and Android? Yes, according to xAI's docs, which say "Grok Bot runs on macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android". The x.ai/bot FAQ still says "desktop (macOS or Windows) or your phone with the iOS app". We follow the docs, and the Android app is live on Google Play.

The mobile app does less than the desktop app. Editing and testing routines needs the desktop app, teach-by-demonstration and some advanced controls aren't on mobile, and computer updates are desktop only.

How do I know it's the real app? On the App Store, the Grok Bot listing shows the developer as "X Corp." with a footer from Anysphere, the company behind Cursor. On Google Play, the Grok Bot app (ai.x.grok.bot) lists SpaceXAI as the author. xAI's docs link to both listings.

Which plan do you need for Grok Bot?

Short answer: Any paid individual Cursor plan (Pro, Pro+ or Ultra) or Cursor Teams includes Grok Bot. You can also link SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy or X Premium+, or sign in with a seat on a self-serve Grok Business plan. SuperGrok Lite doesn't include Grok Bot.

xAI's docs call Cursor's plans page "the canonical plan and usage matrix", so that's the page to check if anything here changes. Cursor's prices are "exclusive of any applicable taxes." Two exceptions stay off even on paid Cursor plans: legacy request-based Teams plans, and teams on Privacy Mode (Legacy). A seat on a self-serve Grok Business plan also includes Grok Bot: sign out, then sign back in with "Sign in with Grok". xAI's pricing page doesn't mark Grok Bot as part of Grok Business plans; we follow Cursor's plans page. On Grok Enterprise, Cursor says to "Contact your account manager about Grok Bot access."

What if I have both Cursor and SuperGrok? They don't add up. xAI's FAQ says "Grok Bot uses whichever has more usage." A Grok Business seat works the same way: Cursor says it "does not add usage on top of a Cursor plan or a SuperGrok link."

Is Grok Bot free?

Short answer: There's a free trial, but it's a usage credit, not a free plan. Cursor says the trial "is a usage credit rather than a set number of days, though a 7-day window also applies." Neither xAI nor Cursor says how big the credit is.

The trial is measured in agent steps and tokens. Used credit isn't restored or topped up, and "the Grok Bot trial never becomes a paid plan". Free-plan accounts see a Cancel Trial option.

An App Store intro offer is a different thing. Cursor warns that it "turns into a paid Apple subscription when the trial ends unless you cancel first." Android has no in-app trial.

Is Grok Bot cheaper on the web or in the app?

Short answer: Cursor plans are cheaper on the web: $20, $60 and $200 a month for Pro, Pro+ and Ultra, against $25.99, $77.99 and $259.99 in the Grok Bot iOS app's US store. SuperGrok is $30 a month on the web and $30.00 in the US Grok iOS app; the web saving is yearly billing only, at $300 a year.

PlanWeb (USD)Grok iOS app, US storeGrok iOS app, Malaysia store
SuperGrok$30 a month, or $300 a year$30.00RM129.90

SuperGrok is sold in the Grok app, not the Grok Bot app; you then link it to Grok Bot. The Grok app listing also shows a second SuperGrok price of $300.00 (RM1,299.90 in Malaysia) without saying what period it covers.

Can I pay yearly for a Cursor plan in the app? No. Cursor says "Only monthly individual plans are available through the mobile app. For yearly billing, Teams, or Enterprise plans, subscribe on cursor.com." Yearly prices on cursor.com are $16 a month for Pro, $48 a month for Pro+ and $160 a month for Ultra, billed yearly.

About the ringgit prices. The RM figures are the Malaysian App Store prices as listed. We show them next to the USD web prices without converting them. The app store listings don't say whether RM prices include tax, and no official page publishes a ringgit web price. If you buy in the app, the store handles cancellation and refunds.

What happens when your weekly Grok Bot usage runs out?

Short answer: Paid access comes with weekly usage that resets every week. When it runs out, Grok Bot keeps going as on-demand usage if on-demand is turned on, billed through Cursor. If on-demand is off, Grok Bot stops until the next reset.

Cursor says a limit "is not a hard stop in the middle of a run." On-demand usage "counts toward the On-demand monthly limit" and is billed from model and token cost. On-demand usage you've already used isn't refundable.

How many hours or tasks do I get each week? xAI and Cursor don't publish numeric weekly limits for any plan. The plans page only ranks plans against each other, as in the table above.

How does Grok Bot work for Teams and Enterprise?

Short answer: Self-serve Cursor Teams Standard and Premium seats include Grok Bot, turned on by default. Enterprise admins switch it on from the Cursor dashboard, and Enterprise pricing is custom through sales.

For Teams, Cursor's plans page says "Grok Bot usage draws from the Teams plan's usage allowance for that seat," and on-demand usage is on by default. xAI's docs agree. xAI's 11 Aug and 26 Aug posts say "Grok Bot comes with its own usage, separate from your Grok and Cursor plans". We follow Cursor's plans page, which xAI's docs name as the canonical matrix. A separate Grok Bot spend cap isn't available.

Enterprise status also differs by page. x.ai/bot says "Grok Bot is generally available for Enterprise"; xAI's docs FAQ says "Enterprise access is rolling out." Either way, you start by contacting sales.

Why won't Grok Bot start? The Legacy Privacy Mode blocker

Short answer: Grok Bot needs cloud data storage. xAI's docs say "Accounts using Legacy Privacy Mode must move to a supported Cursor data setting before Grok Bot can start."

This catches people who set up Cursor a while ago and never changed their data setting. Teams on Privacy Mode (Legacy) also stay switched off. What the move means for training on your data is covered in our security guide.

How do you create your first Grok Bot?

Short answer: Create a Bot with a clear name and one job, put its standing rules in the description, and put the task itself in a chat message. xAI's docs give "Never send external messages without approval." as an example description rule.

A simple first setup, using a placeholder name:

  • Name: Research Bot
  • Description (standing rules): "You research topics and write short summaries with links to your sources. Never send external messages without approval. Save finished work to the shared workspace."
  • First message (the task): "Find five recent articles on home solar batteries and summarise each in three bullet points."

A few things help from day one:

  • One job per Bot. xAI's docs describe Bots as teammates "with names, jobs, and context that compounds over time", so a narrow job keeps that context useful.
  • Files live in one shared place. The computer has a shared workspace at /workspace, and every Bot can read what another Bot saves there.
  • Test runs do real work. If you add a routine later, xAI's docs warn "A test run performs real work."
  • Set your time zone. Routines use the time zone in Settings for their schedules.
  • Don't expect a model menu. Cursor picks the model; there is no model picker.

Before you sign a Bot in to email, work tools or anything with money in it, read what Bots can see on the shared computer.

Is Grok Bot available in Malaysia?

Short answer: The Grok Bot iOS app is listed on the Malaysian App Store with ringgit prices. xAI doesn't publish a list of supported countries, so whether every feature and linking option works in Malaysia is unknown.

The only location xAI's docs mention is hosting: "Grok Bot computers run in the United States today." Google Play doesn't show country availability to logged-out visitors, so Android availability in Malaysia is also unknown.

How do you spot fake Grok Bot sellers?

Short answer: Buy only on grok.com, cursor.com or in the official apps. Cards offering "plans from Rs. 399" over WhatsApp, resold shared accounts and bundles of dozens of tools are not official, so go to x.ai/bot yourself.

These are the patterns in Grok-themed ads in Meta's public Ad Library in late September 2026:

  • Price cards sold over WhatsApp. Ads with Grok branding and real plan names, such as "Grok plans starting from Rs. 399", where the button opens a WhatsApp chat instead of an official checkout.
  • Shared or resold accounts. Flat-price "Grok" or "Cursor" accounts ordered by WhatsApp message.
  • Tool bundles and rentals. One "agency" plan listing Grok beside dozens of other tools, or access to many tools rented by the day.
  • Lookalike pages. Pages using Grok's name or logo, some with invented version numbers, many brand new with no likes.

A shared account is a bigger risk with Grok Bot than with a chat app. The cloud computer belongs to the account, so everyone using that account shares the same computer, files and saved logins. The security guide explains why.

Is "comment GROK and I'll DM you the link" a scam? Not by itself. That hook appears in official creator ads, which Meta shows as paid partnerships with Grok by SpaceXAI, and the official ads link to x.ai/bot. Still, you don't need the DM: type x.ai/bot into your browser and download from there.
